Athens, TN  37303
(423) 745-5622

Sheriff Steve R. Frisbie is a  native of McMinn County. He is the son of Bradley and Reecie Frisbie.  He is married to Abbie Cansler, daughter of George and Joyce Cansler of Sweetwater, Tennessee.  They have one daughter, Ciara Danielle Frisbie.

Steve attended Niota Elementary, graduated from McMinn County High School and is a graduate of the Tennessee Law Enforcement Training Academy.

In 1980, Steve began his law enforcement career as a dispatcher, jailer, and deputy for McMinn County Sheriff's Department.  He worked as a  Reserve Deputy for Niota Police Department and from 1983 to 1986 served in the Sweetwater Police Department.  From 1986 to 1990, he was Lieutenant Supervisor for McMinn County Sheriff's Department and from 1990 through 1993 he served with the Englewood Police Department.

During his early law enforcement career, his goal was to one day become Sheriff of McMinn County, and with fourteen years of law enforcement experience under his belt, he thought it was the right time for him to toss his hat into the ring.

In 1994 he decided to seek the position of Sheriff.  He won the election and was the second youngest sheriff elected out of ninety-five counties in Tennessee.  His goal in life had become a reality and his work had just begun.  Since that time, it has been a privilege and honor for him to serve the citizens of this county.

He is currently in his thirteenth year as Sheriff and is very proud of the accomplishments that have been made for the community. Sheriff Frisbie and his family reside in Athens and are members of West View Baptist Church in Athens.
